During the past year I have been involved in a company startup building a new website from scratch. As of yesterday jobvana.com officially came out of beta testing and is accepting signups for all those individuals looking to show off their talents and services to potential customers.
I like the think of jobvana.com as a cross between LinkedIn, Facebook, Guru and eventually Etsy. Jobvana is extremely new and does not have the team of programmers the big boys do but I feel we will catch them very soon.
Anyways..I figured I would let the B4M crowd know what I have been up to the past year. If you like the way Blogs4me.com works then give jobvana.com a try.
Corp. is taking the unusual step of issuing an emergency fix for a security hole in its Internet Explorer software that has exposed millions of users to having their computers taken over by hackers.
The "zero-day" vulnerability, which came to light last week, allows criminals to take over victims' machines simply by steering them to infected Web sites; users don't have to download anything for their computers to get infected, which makes the flaw in Internet Explorer's programming code so dangerous. Internet Explorer is the world's most widely used Web browser.
Microsoft said it plans to ship a security update, rated "critical," for the browser on Wednesday. People with the Windows Update feature activated on their computers will get the patch automatically.
Thousands of Web sites already have been compromised by criminals looking to exploit the flaw. The bad guys have loaded malicious code onto those sites that automatically infect visitors' machines if they're using Internet Explorer and haven't employed a complicated series of workarounds that Microsoft has suggested.
Microsoft said it has seen attacks targeting the flaw only in Internet Explorer 7, the most widely used version, but has cautioned that all other current editions of the browser are vulnerable.
Microsoft rarely issues security fixes for its software outside of its regular monthly updates. The company last did it in October, and a year and half before that.
So the Lady and I have decided to take golf lessons together. Over the years I have played golf on a few occasions and it has been quite the struggle. I have been told I have a very nice swing (thanks Dad) but, I just can’t seem to hit the ball straight on the golf course.
I can remember one time I went golfing with 3 of my college buddies. We arrived at the golf course early so we hit the driving range while we waited for our tee time. I started hitting my bucket of balls and I was annihilating the ball straight out in front of me like I was the next Tiger Woods. My friends could not believe my swing and the sound I was generating when I made contact with the ball. I figured this was going to be my day to shine...finally I would be able to play a somewhat decent round of golf.
Three hours later and 20ish golf balls later I don’t think I replicated my amazing driving range swing once. Of course I spent more time in the woods looking for balls then actually golfing. I still had a great time being out on the golf course with my friends but, I think it would have been a better time if I could have been a competent golfer.
I just want to welcome all the new users that have signed up in the last 3 weeks. I hope you are enjoying the website and finding it easy to use. Blogs4me.com is and always has been a side project of mine and I take great pleasure in seeing the community grow.
If you ever have any issues or problems with the website please feel free to send me a message.
Is there anyone with a Facebook profile interested in helping me test out the Blogs4me Facebook app?Basically all it does is keep your Facebook profile updated with a list of your most recent blog entries and links to each blog.If you are interested in testing then send me a private message. Thanks!Timbo
I am currently testing out a facebook application that lets you add your Blogs4me.com blog to you facebook profile. It lists your last 5 blog entries on your facebook profile and updates your mini feed when you write a new blog. If any of your friends have installed the application it will also update their news feeds with your new posts. It is somewhat buggy but I should be able to release it soon. Tim
I added some fixes to the site last night that hopefully alleviate some of the problems of yesterday. I am not sure if they are working but so far it all seems good.Joe I am working on a fix for you so you can post from work. I have already installed the fix in the comment form so it should be too big a deal to move it over.As of 2pm yesterday hell finally froze over. I am now the new owner of a used G4 IMAC computer. I never though I would see a day where I owned a Macintosh computer but I just can't get by without one anymore. Too many people use them these days and I need to test on a Mac.So far I have been able to keep the spammers away so at least that is working. ALSO an entire video class signed up to the site yesterday. They can post all they want and you will all never see them. They live in their own world.Tim
I patched the site today and I hope it works ok for everyone. The biggest changes you will see are the new blog editor and comment form. They are much buggy then the previous versions. I am sure there will be bugs but I really can't tell until people use them.I will be opening up the site to new users now. I have installed a moderator system so any new signups must be verified before they will show in the tickers. Basically if a spammer comes to the site and creates a blog of crap it will never be seen by any users of the site. This should keep the content of the site relatively better then it has been in the past when I have opened it. I have never had a system like this on Blogs4me.com even though I probably needed one. Anyways as usual if you find anything broken please let me know.Tim
I will be releasing a big patch this Sunday. Not really any new features, just fixes. This patch includes anti spammer code so the site will be open to new signups starting Monday. Enjoy.Tim
I will be releasing a big patch to to Blogs4me.com soon that will fix a bunch of behind the scenes bugs that are causing me to loose my mind. This patch will also include a more user friendly blog editor that I think will make creating blogs even easier then they are now. Once this patch is released I will hopefully be able to open up the site to new signups as it will contain some code to stop them.
Blogs4me 2.1 will support the ability to use an outside domain name as your Blog URL. By default your new Blog URL will be changing to http://username.blogs4me.com/.If you own a domain name such as www.yourname.com you will be able to specify it in your account settings. After a few days of configuration your new Blog URL will be www.yourname.com instead of the default URL.Blogs4me 2.1 will also contain many bug fixes and changes to the Blog editor to try and make it easier to use.-Timbo
In the next release I will be changing the current URL of your blog.Currently to access your blog you add your username to the end of the domain name:ex: http://www.blogs4me.com/timbo/The new URL will be changed to: http://timbo.blogs4me.com/This is not a really a major change but it just something to keep up with the other blogging sites out there. Timp.s. All old URLS will still work as well.
Many bugs have show their ugly faces recently so I will probably be keeping the Blogs4me.com doors closed for awhile. I am finding I still have a lot of work to do.I am thinking about adding a blog ranking system or something like it to stop the spammers from getting their blog's on the front page of the site. I hate them.I may make the site invite only during beta. I am burnt and will be taking a little time away from the site to clear my head.Tim
I am testing a new DATE/TIME System that reads your local timezone data directly from your computer and then applys it to all the viewable dates on Blogs4me.com. This could result in some really odd looking dates. Please let me know if you see anything crazy. Thanks,Tim
I' am trying different advertisement placements' here and there all over Blogs4me.com.' Don't get discouraged if you see a really stupid looking ad placement because it is' probably just me testing what works and what does not.
