Developer of Blogs4me.com

The purpose of this blog is to keep the members of Blogs4me.com up to date with all the changes and new features I am developing for the web site.

Blogs4me Friends Update

The Friends feature as you know it on Blogs4me has been removed.  It will return at a later date to serve a very different purpose.   I am sorry to say all your friends are gone.  I may be able to update them when I am finished with the new system.  That will depend on how motivated I am.

I have also applied the minimum character limit to the Live Ticker for blog entries.  If a blog entry does not exceed 200 characters it will not show in the ticker anymore.

Burnt

I haven't blogged in awhile about anything except this website.  I would just like to say I am completely burnt out right now.  If I stare at any more programming code I am going to loose my mind.  I had a dream last night in SQL, which makes me sort of ill.

SELECT BURNT
FROM TIMBO
INNER JOIN ALCOHOL
WHERE ALCOHOL.WINE = TIMBO.TRUE

I have decided to not leave my couch for the next 3 days?I hear it calling my name right now?.It has been talking to me lately but I have been ignoring it.  NOT ANYMORE!!! We are hanging out?He is my new boy.

Blogs4me Friends

The Friends feature on Blogs4me is going to disappear for a little while.  I am going to be redesigning it to serve a different purpose on Blogs4me.  You will soon have the option to only allow your friends to comment on your blog entries and photos.

You will have three possible commenting options for every blog entry and photo you submit.

  1. All users can comment on a blog entry or photo.
  2. Only your friends can comment on a blog entry or photo.
  3. No one can comment on a blog entry or photo.

I will also be giving you the ability to approve new comments before they are posted.  You will be able to turn this option on and off for every blog entry and photo.

Photo Commenting

As most of you have probably noticed I added photo commenting to the Blogs4me website recently.  I finally today added a new line to your alert box that alerts you when you have received new photo comments.

The entire alert process is going to be modified some in the next few weeks to give you a better idea of who and what has been added to your blog.   I plan on making it so you will need to search less for the new additions to your blog.  Instead you will be taken directly to the new comments or messages.

As I write this blog entry the Blogs4me user count is currently at 491 users.  The site will probably hit the 500-registered user mark in the next few days.  I am honestly amazed and excited about the recent growth of this website.  I really want to thank all of you for using and supporting my site.

Photo Captions

You can now add captions to all the photos you have loaded into your Blogs4me Blog.  You can do this by clicking on the "Edit My Photos" link located in your user home page.

I will be working on adding comments to other user photo's next.

Blogs4me Chatroom

I have added a very experimental chatroom and instant messaging system to the Blogs4me website.  You can find the link to join the chatroom on your user homepage.  This system is very experimental so be ready to find bugs and other crazy problems.

Enjoy

Be very careful what you are viewing on the web for the next few weeks.

I found this on MSNBC.com....

"The potential [security threat] is huge," said Mikko Hyppönen, chief research officer at F-Secure, an antivirus company. "It's probably bigger than for any other vulnerability we've seen. Any version of Windows is vulnerable right now."

The flaw, which allows hackers to infect computers using programs maliciously inserted into seemingly innocuous image files, was first discovered last week. But the potential for damaging attacks increased dramatically at the weekend after a group of computer hackers published the source code they used to exploit it. Unlike most attacks, which require victims to download or execute a suspect file, the new vulnerability makes it possible for users to infect their computers with spyware or a virus simply by viewing a web page, e-mail or instant message that contains a contaminated image.

"We haven't seen anything that bad yet, but multiple individuals and groups are exploiting this vulnerability," Mr Hyppönen said. He said that every Windows system shipped since 1990 contained the flaw.

Microsoft said in a security bulletin on its website that it was aware that the vulnerability was being actively exploited. However an official patch to correct the flaw was not expected to be released until January 10. "

I would not going roaming around myspace for a few weeks until this windows flaw is fixed.  You will just be asking for spyware or a virus.  I am sure the person who found this exploit did it specifically to attack myspace users.

Question for you all.

I am currently trying to come up with a logo to go along with the name of the site.  I am really stumped and would appreciate any suggestions you all might have.  I have been thinking about a poncho but I don't know if that will work.

Polling is live.

You may now add polls to your blog entries.  In the blog form there is a new icon directly to the right of the save button which will allow you to add a poll.  You may only add one poll at a time to a new blog entry.

Please let me know if you find any bugs.

I am off to Mohegan Sun to win some monies.

New Feature - Blogs4me Polls (coming very soon)

I am currently giving members the ablility to add a poll to your Blogs4me blog entries.  You will be able to enter a question and then add anywhere from 2 to 10 answers.

You will only be able to vote in a specific poll once every 24 hours.  This will stop one user from voting 100 times and screwing up the polls accuracy.  Also, only users who are logged into Blogs4me will be able to vote in polls.

I will be testing the poll in this blog entry for a few days before I release this new feature to the rest of the site.

Saving Blogs

I have added a button to the Blog form that allows you to save a blog entry while writing it.  This will stop you from losing (thanks poncho) blogs you are writing due to server failures or any other unexpected disasters.

You can also write half of a blog and them come back and finish it up days later.  All saved blogs will be deleted after 30 days if they are not published.

Also...any blogs you have previously saved will be deleted from your saved blogs page when published.

New Colors

I have greatly increased the amount of colors you can choose from when changing your color scheme.  If you cannot find a color scheme that works for you now then I really don't know what to tell you.

Enjoy

p.s.  50$ Meg523 breaks the new colors first.

New Alert Box

The new Alert Box will now tell you when someone has made a comment in your blog.  The alert is live so it will update itself without any need to refresh the web browser.

The Alert Box will continue to also tell you when you have new private messages as well.

Enjoy

Smileys.

Due to popular demand I have added smileys to the comment and blog forms.

Enjoy.

New Comment Form

I have updated the comment form to allow many different types of html formatting.  You can now add images, links, bold, italic, underline, change font colors, size...ect.  The form will pretty much do everything but cook you breakfast.

When adding images all you need to do is hit the add image button and link to the image.  The form will insert placeholder text.  When the program displays the actual comment it will go find the images you added in the form and size them to fit.

This form is very beta and I am sure it can be broken about 150 ways.  As you break it let me know so I can continue to fix the bugs.

I know you all want to be able to add smileys to your comments and blogs.  This new form is the beginning of that.

Also....Once this new form is tested a few weeks I will be moving it to the New Blog Entry Page as well.

Your Opinions on a New Feature

I added buttons to everyone’s blog entries that go to the previous and next blog entries written on the site.  If you were to go to the first blog entry ever written on Blogs4me and continue hitting the next button you would go through every blog ever written in chronological order.

I want to know what you all think of this new feature.

Senator Specter Please Find Something Better to do.

This country has many problems that I feel our elected politicians need to spend more time worrying about.  When I see a United States Senator worrying about Terrell Owens it makes me ill.  Comon…. The man makes millions of dollars playing football so I don’t really feel too bad if the Philadelphia Eagles are treating him unfairly.

Suggestions

I am currently stuck in a creative block right now.  I am having problems coming up with new things to build into the website.  If you have any suggestions of things you would like to see added to the Blogs4me website please leave them in this blog.

Thanks!

Tim

Blogs4me Favorites

I have added the ability to add Blogs4me blogs to your favorites list at the top of all user blogs.  When you are logged into your homepage you will now have the option to view the latest new blog entries of the entire site or just the new blog entries of your favorite blogs.  By clicking the link at the bottom of the Latest Entries column (located on the right side of your homepage) you can toggle between the two views.

If you have no favorites you will not have the option to toggle between views so don’t get discouraged if you can’t see the new link at first.  Once you add a blog to your favorites the new link will appear.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Enjoy!!

Man down!!! Man down!!!

About an hour ago as I was sitting on the computer slowly working my way through a Flash MX 2004 Professional book so I can add some more toys to Blogs4me.  I tend to have a broken gear and can never sit perfectly still.  Usually it is my leg that is moving or I am playing with my eyebrow while deep in thought.  I think all this random movement finally killed my chair.  When I turned and leaned to the left the entire left armrest on the chair broke. :(:(

I cannot tell you how sad I am right now.  I have had this chair for a very long time.  Maybe I am sick but I feel like I just lost a friend.  Oh well….it might have been time for a new chair anyway.
